Bloomberg has learned about Trump's plans to appoint a "Peace Council" in Gaza
US President Donald Trump intends in the coming days to announce the composition of the "Peace Council" on Gaza, which should deal with the implementation of Washington's post-war plan and the maintenance of an unstable truce between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 11.
"The Gaza Peace Council is expected to be announced next week, and its first meeting will be held on the sidelines of the Davos forum," U.S. mediator Bishara Bakhbach said in a statement.
It is specified that the council will consist mainly of current heads of state and government and will be headed by Trump himself. His tasks include forming an interim administration in Gaza to replace Hamas, attracting international security forces and financing the reconstruction of the enclave.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the plan, but insisted on the disarmament of Hamas and the complete demilitarization of Gaza.
On the eve of The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported that Israel and Hamas are stepping up preparations for a new stage of the conflict in the Gaza Strip due to the refusal of the Palestinian group to disarm, which hinders the progress of the peace plan of the American administration. Other parts of the first phase have also not been completed: Israel has not yet opened the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, and the body of the last remaining dead Israeli hostage in Gaza has not yet been returned.
Prior to that, on December 29, 2025, before meeting with Netanyahu, Trump stated that in order to accelerate the process of normalizing the situation in the Gaza Strip, the complete disarmament of the Palestinian Hamas movement was necessary. He noted that this should be done as soon as possible.
