Pezeshkian called on Iranians to take to the streets to protest the unrest
Iranian citizens should take to the streets to express their disagreement with the riots. This was announced on January 11 by the President of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Peseshkian.
"These people are killing innocents, setting fire to property. It's impossible to accept. Therefore, as before, we ask the residents of each district to unite and not allow them to cause riots. The people should be present, be on the spot," Peseshkian said.
The Iranian President also stressed that the authorities listen to the demands of people who come out to protest and resolve them. In addition, he urged the country's young people not to allow themselves to be deceived by "rioters and terrorists." The Head of State noted that the Iranian society "does not accept those who set fire to mosques."
On the same day, CNN reported that the death toll during the protests in Iran had risen to 78 people. It was noted that the demonstrations covered more than 180 cities of Iran.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on January 9 that the Iranian youth and the entire nation must maintain unity, which will allow them to defeat any enemy. After that, Iran's Supreme National Security Council accused the United States and Israel of organizing unrest in the country.
