- The Northern Administrative District of Moscow reported on the progress of snow removal
Large-scale snow removal works are underway in the Northern Administrative District (CAO), in particular in the Golovinsky district of Moscow, which was brought there in record volumes by Cyclone Frances. Dmitry Bunakov, the head of the district council, told Izvestia about this on January 11.
"At present, work is primarily underway at road facilities to sweep and clear pedestrian sidewalks, bus shelters, and entrances to them, as well as, accordingly, to clean the roadway," he said.
Bunakov clarified that so-called "snow piles" are formed from all precipitation, which will later be exported from the city. The process involved equipment belonging to both government agencies, such as GBU Zhilishchnik and GBU Highways, as well as commercial organizations.
The head of the Golovinsky district of the capital clarified that in parallel with this activity, work is underway in the district to prevent icy conditions.
Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, reported a day earlier that the snowfall recorded in the capital broke a half-century record, becoming the most intense in the last 56 years. He specified that 22 mm of precipitation fell into the precipitation meter at the VDNKh weather station during the day, which was 42% of the monthly norm.
Due to the incident on the night of Friday, January 9, to Saturday, January 10, traffic on some sections of the MKAD was almost paralyzed, and the work of Moscow airways was disrupted.
