The countries of the European Union (EU) are worried about the lack of reaction of the North Atlantic Alliance to the words of American President Donald Trump about the desire to take control of Greenland. This was reported by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

"NATO's silence on Donald Trump's threats to Greenland has shocked European allies," the article says.

Unnamed interlocutors of the publication clarified that European politicians believe that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte should be the person they could rely on. It was noted that he allegedly conducts close negotiations on this issue with both European and American officials, but the content of their conversations is unknown.

Trump said on January 4 that it would be more beneficial for Europe from the point of view of defense if the United States owned Greenland. Later, on January 8, American Vice President Jay Dee Vance appealed to European states to seriously listen to Trump's statements about Greenland, and two days later The Daily Mail learned that the United States Special Operations Command had received an order from the president to prepare a detailed plan for an invasion of Greenland.

On January 11, the head of the Federation Council's information policy commission, Alexei Pushkov, said that the statements of the head of the White House about Greenland made the EU come to its senses. He pointed to the excitement experienced by European leaders, in which they try to remind Washington of the norms of international law, which they themselves constantly violated around the world.
