He added that the disaster was one of the three most intense snowfalls in Moscow since the beginning of the 21st century.
According to forecasters, the highest amount of precipitation per day in winter at the VDNKh weather station was 21.4 mm on January 9, 2026. During the entire observation period, only 24 snowfalls with more than 15 mm of precipitation were recorded, and heavy snowfalls occur approximately once every 5-6 years.
Earlier, on January 10, it was reported that Moscow utilities continue to clean up the consequences of the snowfall. Special equipment and mobile snow plows have taken to the streets of the capital, which clean sidewalks, yards and highways, and the collected snow is sent to snow melting points for processing.
