The free trade agreement between the European Union and MERCOSUR may lead to the loss of more than 120,000 jobs in the EU. This was announced on January 10 by Marius Budei, a member of the Romanian Parliament from the Social Democratic Party and former Minister of Labor.

"Did you know that, according to estimates, about 120,000 jobs will be lost in the EU?" he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), commenting on the consequences of the agreement.

According to the MP, Romania is one of the EU countries with a high proportion of people employed in agriculture, so it is particularly vulnerable to such decisions. Budey also criticized Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan for approving the agreement without consulting the ruling coalition.

He admitted that such decisions could lead to the collapse of the coalition.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that clashes between farmers and law enforcement agencies took place in Bassens, France, against the background of the EU agreement with MERCOSUR. Protesters using agricultural machinery blocked an oil depot and access to a fuel infrastructure facility. The gendarmerie used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
