Slovakia will not provide military assistance to Kiev and will not send troops to Ukraine in the event of a possible truce. This was announced on January 10 by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini during a speech broadcast on YouTube.

"I fully support and agree with the Prime Minister [Robert Fico], who says that Slovakia will never send troops to Ukraine in the event of a truce or any security guarantees, and that Slovakia will not provide military assistance," he said.

The politician noted that the country will limit itself exclusively to humanitarian support for Ukraine. According to him, Slovakia will also not act as a guarantor for the loan from the European Union (EU) to Kiev.

On January 8, Fico said that the peace talks on Ukraine were being deliberately disrupted in order to disrupt the settlement. The politician added that the conflict in Ukraine will continue "for many more months." He called the reason for this "the steps that are being taken." The Slovak Prime minister did not specify who exactly is preventing a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

Earlier, on January 4, Fico reported that EU representatives, pursuing their anti-Russian policy, are ready to reach "the edge of the abyss." The Prime Minister noted that the amount of the military loan approved by EU politicians, provided to Kiev, already amounts to 280 billion euros. In addition, he recalled the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions by the alliance and the freezing of Russian assets.

On January 1, Fico also stated his horror at the attitude of some EU leaders towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, a number of ruling officials are looking at this situation with "ease and greed." He stressed that peace is not just a word, but the basis for human existence.
