Evgeny Zinkovsky, the world champion in modern pentathlon, has died.
Evgeny Zinkovsky, the 1983 world champion in modern pentathlon in the USSR national team, died at the age of 65. This was announced on January 10 on the website of the press service of the Federation of Modern Pentathlon of Russia.
The cause of death of the athlete is not specified. The federation expressed its condolences to Zinkovsky's family and friends.
"The Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation and the entire pentathlon community express their deep and sincere condolences to the family and friends of Evgeny Zinkovsky," the statement said.
Evgeny Zinkovsky became the world champion in the team competition in 1983, and also won bronze in individual competitions. After completing his sports career, he worked as a coach and trained a number of winners of the Russian and European championships. In 2019, Zinkovsky was recognized by the International Union of Modern Pentathlon as the best junior coach.
