The Czech authorities intend to tighten their migration policy towards Ukrainian citizens. This was announced on January 10 by Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Tomio Okamura.

According to him, the new Czech government adheres to a new approach to the Ukrainian issue: now assistance to Kiev is not a priority.

"There is already a new government in power in the Czech Republic, which has a different view of Ukraine and relations with Ukraine than the previous one. <...> For the new government, Ukraine is no longer the No. 1 priority," Okamura said.

The politician stressed that the current Czech Republic does not intend to send financial or military assistance to Kiev at the expense of its state budget.

"We do not want to send funds or weapons to Ukraine for Czech money. <...> On the contrary, we want to tighten migration policy," he concluded.

Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis said on January 7 that the supply of shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), funded by Western states through third countries, may continue, but the Czech state budget will not participate in this. According to him, the country will not send its soldiers to Ukraine, and participation is funded exclusively by other states.
