Szijjarto pointed to the military fanaticism of EU leaders
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on January 10 that European leaders had lost their common sense and had become military fanatics.
"At least 15 times a year, you have to spend the whole day locked in a dark room with your colleagues from the European Union. At least there are no windows. The fact is that over the past three years, these 15 meetings per year have turned into military meetings. Common sense has been completely lost in Brussels. Military fanaticism has taken hold of Europe's political leaders," Szijjarto said at a congress of the ruling Fidesz party.
The minister recalled that an agreement was announced in Paris at the end of last week, according to which Britain and France would send soldiers to Ukraine. Szijjarto also stressed that Brussels' military policy exposes Hungary to the greatest danger.
"We Hungarians are in the greatest danger if this conflict escalates. Think about it: we're the closest, we're right next door. And in Ukraine, state policy is openly directed against Hungarians and Hungary," concluded the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
Szijjarto said on January 7 that Western European countries were increasing the risk of direct military conflict with Russia by promoting the idea of a military presence in Ukraine. He stressed that Hungary continues to advocate for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict. According to him, Budapest supports peace talks, including high-level contacts between the United States and Russia, and rejects Brussels' decisions, which, in his opinion, bring escalation closer.
