An icebreaker is heading to the ship, which has been blocked by ice in the Bering Sea off the coast of Chukotka for the sixth day, and on Sunday, January 11, it will begin work to rescue the vessel from the trap. This was announced on January 10 by a representative of the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office (DVTP).

"An icebreaker is approaching somewhere. [The work] is planned for tomorrow, if nothing changes," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The agency's interlocutor noted that the crew members on board the ship, whose lives and health are not in danger, are provided with provisions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, taking part in the laying ceremony of the nuclear icebreaker Stalingrad, on November 18, 2025, noted the development of Russia's unique icebreaking fleet. The Russian leader stressed that his country was the only one in the world capable of mass-producing powerful nuclear icebreakers based on domestic technologies.
