- Medvedev recalled the unacceptability of the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine for the Russian Federation
Russia does not accept the presence of a NATO military contingent on the territory of Ukraine — the corresponding position has been indicated many times. This was announced on Saturday, December 10, by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.
"It has been said a thousand times: Russia will not accept any European or NATO troops in Ukraine," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
He responded accordingly to French President Emmanuel Macron's calls to send European troops to Ukraine.
On January 6, the day when the "coalition of the willing" signed the declaration on the deployment of the military in Ukraine, Macron clarified that the document sets out in detail all the components of security guarantees, and the participants agreed to create a single coordination center. The next day, The Times learned that the French and British authorities were ready to send up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 8 that the West's plan to militarize Ukraine was aimed at escalating the conflict. She called the document prepared by the "coalition of the willing" far from a peaceful settlement. The German Chancellor said on the same day that the deployment of international forces in Ukraine was impossible without Russia's consent.
