Over the past year, schoolchildren and students from Moscow colleges have participated in more than 300 hikes and expeditions. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

"Throughout the year, the guys have been actively involved in research, environmental and local history programs of additional education," Sobyanin wrote on his channel in the IACH. "From many trips, they brought not only a lot of impressions and knowledge, but also materials for various useful projects and initiatives."

According to the mayor, the largest project of last year was the Big Arctic Expedition. Its participants visited Cape Chelyuskin, where they studied the peculiarities of the local flora, fauna, water and air. The children also worked on the reconstruction of the memorial to Soviet polar explorers and prepared plans for a full-scale restoration of this monument.

Sobyanin also named a number of other memorable expeditions. In particular, this is a trip through the Pamir-Alai mountain range under the guidance of Andrei Zharov, a teacher at the Zelenograd Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth. The participants crossed the Terek River, and at the Bayaman pass they found a message from 2008 — a note from the pioneers from the group of mountaineer Bogdan Savchinsky.

There was also a hike to the Samarskaya Luka National Park and the Zhiguli Biosphere Reserve. During the expedition, organized by the Moscow Children's and Youth Center for Ecology, Local History and Tourism, the participants got acquainted with local folklore and legends about Stepan Razin.

Sobyanin wished the participants of the trip "new exciting trips and discoveries," adding that such adventures "remain forever in memory."
