Kozlov spoke about measures to preserve Russia's Arctic ecosystems.
Russia's Arctic ecosystems are very fragile and require special protection. This was announced on January 10 by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov.
Specially protected areas are being created in the region to preserve nature, covering about 13% of the Arctic area, or 40 million hectares.
"Arctic ecosystems are very fragile, and they need to be preserved. A large—scale network of specially protected natural territories of federal importance has already been created in the region," Kozlov told RIA Novosti.
He added that such spaces are important for the conservation of polar bears, wild reindeer, musk oxen, as well as endemic birds, including sterches, for which the Kytalyk National Park has been created.
"Such places should be under special protection," the minister stressed.
Earlier, on December 24, 2025, it was reported that the Transarctic Transport Corridor would become a key element of a comprehensive project for the development of the Arctic zone of Russia. The project provides for the integration of the Northern Sea Route with inland waterways and transport infrastructure to ensure the connectivity of the region and the integrated development of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East. This takes into account measures to protect ecosystems and monitor the environmental situation.
