Pushkov asked two questions about Meloni's initiative to resume dialogue with Russia.
Senator Alexei Pushkov questioned Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni's proposal to resume negotiations with Russia. He wrote about this on January 9 in his Telegram channel.
"The first one is what kind of negotiations? Bilateral or on behalf of the EU? The question arises due to the fact that so far only [Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor] has advocated negotiations in the EU. — Ed.] Orban and [Slovak Prime Minister Robert. — Ed.] Fico, and [the head of the European Commission Ursula. — Ed. von Leyen and the European Commission did not want to hear about them," the parliamentarian explained.
In his opinion, the second issue is related to the EU's position, which fully supports Kiev's demands, and therefore cannot serve as a basis for productive negotiations.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Meloni called on the EU to resume dialogue with Russia and proposed the creation of a post of special representative for the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. She stressed that in order for Russia to return to the G8, it is necessary to achieve peace in Ukraine.
