The Russian Federation intends to develop and implement genetic screening of future parents

Russia intends to develop and implement molecular genetic screening programs for expectant parents. This became known on January 10.

According to the TASS news agency, this will make it possible to detect the presence of hidden pathogenic gene variants and assess the risks of having a child with hereditary diseases at the stage of pregnancy planning.

During 2026, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation will prepare proposals for the creation and development of this program and submit a report to the government of the country.
