Iran believes that it is the United States that is responsible for turning the protests in the country into violent anti-government protests. This became known on January 9 from a letter from the Islamic Republic to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The document clarifies that the United States is guilty of "turning peaceful protests into violence, subversive actions and widespread vandalism."

It is also noted that Iran denies the US policy of destabilization, which violates the principles of international law and undermines the UN Charter.

On January 8, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance made a statement that the United States supports Iranian citizens who come out to peaceful protests. According to him, Washington stands in solidarity with those who express their position in a non-violent way.

IRNA news agency reported on January 2 that Iran had sent an appeal to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, in which it condemned US President Donald Trump's statements about the protests and warned of its readiness to defend itself in the event of an American strike. The letter also states that the United States will bear full responsibility for any consequences of possible illegal threats and the subsequent escalation of tension.

On the same day, Trump said that if Iran kills peaceful protesters, the United States is ready to help the demonstrators. He added that the United States is focused and ready for action.
