Analyst Mercuris noted the EU's desire to prolong the conflict by deploying troops in Ukraine

The heads of state of the European Union (EU), by their desire to deploy troops on the territory of Ukraine, are trying to prolong the conflict there. This was reported by British military analyst Alexander Mercuris.

"The goal is to prolong the conflict. <...> And it is also an attempt to draw the United States back into the "Ukraine project" in order to force them to give the Europeans at least some support." — he said on the air of his YouTube channel on January 7.

The expert said that the leaders of Western countries were constantly changing the rationale for deploying their troops in Ukraine: initially they called it a peacekeeping mission, and then dubbed deterrence forces. Currently, according to the idea of the alliance, their military personnel will monitor the observance of the ceasefire.

The analyst added that another reason why European leaders are so eager to send troops is their attempt to restore their deteriorating reputation in this way, which, according to Mercuris, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are interested in.

The Times newspaper reported on the same day that France and Britain were ready to send up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine as a peacekeeping contingent after a possible peace agreement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 8 that the West's plan to militarize Ukraine was aimed at escalating the conflict.

On January 6, the day when the "coalition of the willing" signed the declaration on the deployment of the military in Ukraine, Macron clarified that the document sets out in detail all the components of security guarantees, and the participants agreed to create a single coordination center.

On January 8, Merz acknowledged that the formation and deployment of multinational forces within the framework of security guarantees for Ukraine is impossible without Russia's consent.
