The capacity of Russian seaports will increase by 56 million tons in 2026, and navigation conditions on inland waterways will improve. This was announced on January 9 by the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Andrey Nikitin.

"We will increase the capacity of seaports by 56 million tons in 2026, and improve navigation conditions on inland waterways," Nikitin said in an interview with TASS.

He added that the development of the country's railway ranges and the Northern Sea Route will continue.

As part of the national project "Efficient Transport System", the total increase in the capacity of Russian seaports from 2025 to 2030 will amount to 225 million tons. Capacity growth in the eastern direction is expected to reach 115 million tons by 2030, 38.6 million tons in the Azov-Black Sea direction, 66.2 million tons in the north—western direction, and 5.3 million tons in the North-South transport corridor.

Earlier, on November 18, 2025, it was reported that it was premature to evaluate the work of the new Minister of Transport, Andrei Nikitin, appointed by decree of the President of the Russian Federation on July 8, 2025. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Nikitin actively participates in many events and solves numerous tasks in the industry.
