A 43-year-old former employee of a fishing vessel was arrested for the murder of a sailor on New Year's Eve. This was reported on January 9 in the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"According to the investigation, on January 1, 2026, the accused, while intoxicated on board a fishing vessel in the waters of the Olyutorsky Bay of the Bering Sea, struck a sailor with a knife in the chest area during the conflict, from which he died at the scene," the department's Telegram channel said.

It is noted that the detained man was charged under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder"). At the request of the investigating authorities, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
