The hydrometeorological center warned about the peak of snowfall in Moscow
The peak of the heavy snowfall that hit Moscow and the Moscow region may occur in the morning and be accompanied by a significant increase in snow cover. This was announced on January 9 by the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation.
According to TASS, the most intense precipitation is forecast in the period from 06:00 to 12:00 Moscow time. At this time, snow growth can reach up to 5.5 cm for every three hours. In the afternoon, the snowfall intensity is expected to gradually decrease, but precipitation will not completely stop.
The Hydrometeorological Center clarified that from 21:00 Moscow time on January 8 to 21:00 Moscow time on January 9, up to 20-25 mm of precipitation may fall in Moscow and the Moscow region. During this period, the height of the snow cover can increase by 25-35 cm, with the main increase predicted in the daytime on January 9.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the capital's airports continue to operate normally. According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, no flight cancellations were recorded due to the weather, and airport services were put on high alert to ensure takeoff and landing operations.
