France will vote against the European Union (EU) trade agreement with the South American common market Mercosur. This was reported on January 8 by France 24 TV channel.

"While Brussels hopes to get the approval of European states <...> for the possible signing of a free trade agreement with Latin America, <...>.. France intends to definitively oppose this text and thus find itself in a minority within the European Union," the publication says.

At the same time, Germany and Spain insist on signing the agreement.

The agreement itself, according to the TV channel, is controversial for the EU. On the one hand, according to France 24, South America will sell meat, sugar, rice and soybeans to Europe. On the other hand, they will not be consistent with the health and environmental standards of European countries.

In this regard, France is acting as an opposition to this agreement.
