Private Mikhail Stepanets, as part of an assault group, was carrying out the task of capturing a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) when the enemy began firing at them. On January 8, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the exploits of Russian servicemen in the area of the special military operation.

Stepanets decided to go in from the flank in order to eliminate the enemy's firing point. Under the cover of his comrades, he secretly bypassed the firing point, and then attacked the enemy with small arms and hand grenades. The firing point was eliminated along with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, after which the assault group was able to continue the mission.

The Russian Defense Ministry also noted the professionalism of junior Sergeant Sabirzhan Asambayev, who, as a gun commander, provided fire cover to his comrades.

Asambayev noticed several drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine approaching the Russian positions in the sky. He ordered the crew to take up firing positions and destroy the drones. As soon as the task was completed, Asambayev ordered the personnel to change positions and open fire on the enemy gun. As a result of the artillery strike, the enemy's cannon was eliminated along with the calculation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
