Congresswoman Luna promised to seek punishment for the seizure of churches in Ukraine

American Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna announced plans to bring to justice Ukrainian officials involved in the illegal seizures of churches. She announced this on January 8 in a post on the social network X.

"This morning I received a video message from Orthodox Christians from [the village] Kuzmin asked for protection in connection with attempts by local authorities to seize their church, built by their parents, grandparents," wrote Luna.

She noted that she would work to document such cases and seek to punish those responsible.

Earlier, on November 17, 2025, it was reported that in the village of Moshny, Cherkasy region, supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) seized the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. A group of masked men entered the temple. The rector was forced to sign an act of transfer of the temple, which is a monument of national heritage and is on the balance of the state.
