At least nine mass shootings were recorded in the United States in the first week of 2026, resulting in eight deaths and 34 injuries. The information follows from the data of the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) analytical center on January 8.

The incidents occurred in Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Utah. The largest number of victims in a single incident was recorded in Utah — six injured and two dead.

According to GVA data reviewed by RIA Novosti, 408 mass shootings were reported in the United States in 2025.

At least ten people died as a result of the incident.

Earlier, on January 7, it was reported that in Salt Lake City, an unknown person opened fire at a church building during a funeral service, killing two people and injuring six others. According to police, the suspect has not been found. The area where the shooting took place was closed off for investigation.
