Chinese Foreign Ministry opposes new US anti-Russian sanctions
Beijing opposes the new US anti-Russian sanctions, as its cooperation with Moscow in the energy sector does not affect any third party, so this relationship should not be affected. This was announced on January 8 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Mao Ning.
"Normal trade, economic and energy cooperation between China and Russia is not directed against any third party, it should not be subject to interference or influence," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Mao Ning added that China has consistently opposed "illegal unilateral sanctions" by the United States. Accordingly, she commented on the statement by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist) about US President Donald Trump's support for a bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
On January 7, Graham announced a vote next week on a bipartisan bill on anti-Russian sanctions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on December 17, 2025, that Moscow had not received official reports of Washington's new anti-Russian sanctions. Then, stressing that the Russian Federation had been informed of such plans by the United States, he added that any restrictions negatively affect the establishment of relations between states.
