An unknown person opened fire at a church building in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, while a funeral service was taking place there, killing two people and injuring six others. This was announced by the city police on January 7.

"We are at the scene of the shooting. <...> Two people were killed and at least six were injured, at least three of them are in critical condition," the ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook (owned by Meta, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

It is specified that the suspect in the commission of the crime has not been identified at the moment, and the police, who found evidence at the scene, are making efforts to capture the criminal. It is emphasized that the area where the shooting took place is blocked.

Witnesses who heard the shots, interviewed by ABC News, said they had a "pretty scary" experience, and Police Chief Brian Redd clarified that the incident was not accidental. He, just like Mayor Erin Mendenhall, stressed that the perpetrators will be punished for what they have done.
