The murder of a female driver by ICE agents in Minneapolis occurred just a few blocks from the place where the African-American George Floyd was killed by police in 2020. Federal officials called the shooting an act of self-defense, and the mayor described it as reckless and unnecessary. This was reported on January 8 by the Associated Press (AP).

"This place is just a few blocks from some of the oldest immigrant markets in the area and a mile from the place where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020," the publication says.

It is clarified that federal and local authorities are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting, and a crowd of angry protesters quickly gathered at the scene.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that a 37-year-old woman, who was a US citizen, was shot dead in Minneapolis during an operation involving ICE agents. According to the Ministry of Internal Security, she allegedly tried to use a car to run over employees and escape. The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the shooting. The mayor of the city called on ICE agents to leave Minneapolis.

After the incident, mass protests began. According to the TV channel, the protesters are pushing police officers and ICE agents out of the area, throwing snowballs at them and hitting official vehicles.

US President Donald Trump made a comment about this. In his opinion, the murder of the woman occurred in self-defense. He noted that the incident was the result of threats from people of radical leftist views, who, according to the American leader, threaten ICE.
