A law will come into force this month, according to which, in order to obtain Russian citizenship, you will need to take the oath not from the age of 18, but from the age of 14. This was announced on January 8 by Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs.

"Now, those who acquire citizenship on January 9, when the law comes into force, will have to take the oath from the age of 14, and not from the age of 18. Accordingly, if a person does not take the oath, then in this case the acquired citizenship will not be issued and the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation will not be issued," the TASS news agency quoted Nilov as saying.

The decrease in age is due to the fact that it is at the age of 14 that a Russian citizen receives a passport, and criminal liability begins at this age. This responsibility for compliance with State laws is also secured by taking an oath.
