A turtle of the caretta caretta species protected in Turkey, nicknamed "Tuba", swam 10,000 km in five months. This was announced on January 8 at the Center for Scientific Research and Rehabilitation of Sea Turtles (DEKAMER).

"From August 9 to early January, the Tuba turtle has already covered 10,000 km, sailing from Marmaris to the Greek island of Ios and returning to Turkish Bodrum. We found out that turtles of this species return to the beach where they were born in order to lay their eggs there again," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted the center's press service as saying.

It is noted that the turtle, which is at least 30 years old, has sailed past the coasts of Greece, Malta, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro and Croatia in its entire life.

To date, Tuba has become the turtle that scientists have been monitoring for the longest period of time.
