US President Donald Trump is expected to announce the formation of a "Peace Council" on Gaza next week as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. This was reported on January 7 by the Axios portal, citing sources.

"President Trump is expected to announce the establishment of a peace council on Gaza next week as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, two American officials and two sources familiar with the situation said," the publication said.

It is noted that the countries that may join the council are the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey.

Earlier, on December 29, before a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said that in order to accelerate the process of normalizing the situation in the Gaza Strip, the complete disarmament of the Palestinian Hamas movement was necessary.
