The Syrian army intends to launch a limited military operation against the Kurdish units of the "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF/SDF) in the city of Aleppo. This was reported on January 7 by Al Jazeera TV channel, citing a Syrian government source.

"The operation will be conducted in accordance with international law, [before it begins] civilians will be evacuated, strikes will be carried out against armed groups," the source claims.

According to the report, the decision was made in response to requests from the local population to stop the shelling, including drone attacks that have claimed more than 20 lives over the past month.

The army command has already imposed a curfew in the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods of Aleppo, declaring them a war zone and urging residents not to approach the positions of the Kurdish forces.

On January 6, fighting broke out between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Army on the outskirts of Aleppo, where the Kurdish population lives. The conflicting sides accused each other of shelling residential areas, resulting in the death of four civilians and 26 injured.

Although a ceasefire was reached by Tuesday evening, fighting resumed on Wednesday. In this regard, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Syria suspended the operation of the Aleppo International Airport, as well as the work of government agencies.

On December 24, Russia confirmed its support for Syria's sovereignty after a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shibani in Moscow. It was noted that the need to consolidate international and regional efforts to help achieve sustainable stabilization of the situation in Syria was also highlighted.
