The government plans to submit to the State Duma a bill that will allow the processing of biometric data of suspects, accused and convicted persons without their consent. This became known on January 7.

According to TASS, the Ministry of Justice, together with other interested departments, will develop the document. The elaborated bill should be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by September.

The draft is scheduled to be submitted to the State Duma in April 2027.

Earlier, on January 5, it was reported that the Russian Interior Ministry had warned citizens about fraudsters who were trying to obtain biometric data remotely. The department noted that any such appeals should be considered as signs of fraud. In case of an attempt to illegally obtain data, it is recommended to immediately block bank accounts, change passwords from online banking and government services, and submit applications to the police and Roskomnadzor to protect your personal data and prevent possible theft of funds.
