The Times named four scenarios for the establishment of U.S. control over Greenland
The United States can resort to four different ways to establish control over Greenland. Possible options for action on January 6 are listed by the British newspaper The Times.
So, the first option may be a military invasion and occupation of the island. However, in the event of such a development, the United States will have difficulty retaining the occupied territories if a large number of local residents begin to oppose this control.
The second option may be coercion. In this case, US President Donald Trump may try to buy the island from Denmark and promise economic growth to the locals.
The conclusion of a free association agreement is proposed as a third way. As part of the deal, the companies will gain control over defense and security issues while maintaining the internal self-government of local residents.
The latter option involves the preservation of Greenland as part of Denmark, an increase in the military presence of the US army on the island and the appointment of American officials as advisers to local government representatives.
