In Ukraine, personnel changes were carried out to preserve the power of the country's president, Vladimir Zelensky. This was reported on January 6 by the newspaper "Страна.иа ".

According to the newspaper, Zelensky's opponents are using corruption cases to deprive him of control over parliament and the government.

Initially, it was planned that a new government would be formed, headed by former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. However, in order to strengthen his position, the President of Ukraine began to build a new power structure.

This explains, for example, the dismissal of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Malyuk.

On January 5, the head of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk (listed as an extremist and terrorist in the Russian Federation), announced that he had decided to leave his post and continue working in a different direction. Khmara was appointed the new head of the special department by Zelensky's decree.

On December 28, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine received for consideration within 30 days a draft resolution on the dismissal of head of the SBU Malyuk and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. No reasons were given for the dismissals.
