German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on January 6 that Germany intends to deploy troops in Ukraine after the conflict ends.

"Each partner in the Coalition, of course, must decide in accordance with the established procedure, in accordance with their internal procedures, what contribution they will make. Germany will continue to make political, financial and military contributions. This may include, for example, the deployment of troops on the territory of Ukraine, neighboring NATO, after the cease—fire," Merz said.

He added that Germany, along with the UK, will participate in monitoring the ceasefire and contribute to strengthening Ukraine.

The German Chancellor also said that Germany will continue to be responsible for Ukraine's security and will contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine within the framework of the Coalition of Willing.
