- The "Coalition of the Willing" has signed a declaration on the deployment of the military in Ukraine
France, Great Britain and Ukraine have signed a declaration of intent on the future deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine. This was reported on January 6 by the Reuters news agency.
As noted by Reuters, the relevant document was signed following a meeting of the coalition of the willing. French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Paris declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine had been agreed at the meeting.
"This summit today reinforces the significant progress reflected in the Paris Declaration on Reliable Security Guarantees for a Lasting and Sustainable Peace. This declaration of the Coalition of the Willing recognizes for the first time the existence of an operational rapprochement between the 35 countries that are part of the coalition of Volunteers, Ukraine, as well as the United States of America in order to build reliable security guarantees," Macron said.
Earlier in the day, the newspaper Le Figaro reported that representatives of the countries that make up the "coalition of the willing" gathered in Paris amid deepening disagreements over the amount of support for Ukraine. According to media reports, the Scandinavian and Baltic states accuse France and Germany of not contributing enough to help Kiev. The northern countries and the states bordering Russia consider that they bear a disproportionately heavy burden.
Bloomberg reported yesterday that the United States and the European Union want to agree on plans for security guarantees for Ukraine at a meeting in Paris on January 6. The meeting followed a series of meetings between national security advisers that took place in December.
