U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker suggested on January 6 that the parties to the conflict in Ukraine are "on the verge" of a peaceful settlement.

"We have come very far, this is a great achievement, we may already be on the verge of a peace agreement," Whitaker said on Fox News channel.

According to him, according to the results of the meeting of the "coalition of the willing" in Paris, some agreements should be finalized. In particular, a draft framework document on security guarantees for Ukraine may be agreed upon.

Earlier in the day, the newspaper Le Figaro reported that representatives of the countries that make up the "coalition of the willing" gathered in Paris amid deepening disagreements over the amount of support for Ukraine. According to media reports, the Scandinavian and Baltic states accuse France and Germany of not contributing enough to help Kiev. The northern countries and the states bordering Russia consider that they bear a disproportionately heavy burden.

Bloomberg reported yesterday that the United States and the European Union want to agree on plans for security guarantees for Ukraine at a meeting in Paris on January 6. The meeting followed a series of meetings between national security advisers that took place in December.
