On January 6, during a speech to congressmen, American leader Donald Trump again ridiculed his predecessors as president of the United States, saying that "there is no one worse than Obama."

"The only thing he signed was Hunter's pardon," Trump stressed, referring to former US President Joe Biden.

The state of California is more corrupt than Minnesota, the US president added during a meeting with American Republican congressmen at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

On the same day, Trump announced that the US federal authorities had launched a fraud investigation into the state of California. The head of the White House added that he considers California, under the rule of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, to be even more corrupt than the state of Minnesota, where investigations were also conducted earlier.

In July 2023, Joseph Ziegler, a criminal investigator for the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS), said at a congressional hearing that Hunter Biden and his business partners had received $17 million from foreign sources, including $7.3 million from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. He indicated that he had evidence in favor of the charges against Biden Jr. in the tax evasion case.

Then, in December 2023, Hunter Biden was charged with nine counts of tax evasion between 2016 and 2020. It was noted that he spent "this money on drugs, escort services and girls, luxury hotels and rental properties, exclusive cars, clothing and other personal items — in short, on everything except paying his taxes." On January 11, 2024, the son of the former president of the United States refused to plead guilty to non-payment of federal taxes in the amount of at least $ 1.4 million.

In addition, in June 2024, a jury found Biden Jr. guilty of all three counts of possession of weapons and drug use in the purchase of firearms. He was charged that in 2018, when buying a Colt pistol, he lied, denying drug use. The Delaware court is scheduled to announce the verdict on November 13. The son of the former US president may face up to 25 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $750 thousand.
