Former CSKA coach Viktor Goncharenko heads the national team of Belarus

Viktor Goncharenko has been appointed head coach of the Belarusian national football team. This was reported on January 6 on the website of the Association of the Belarusian Football Federation (ABFF).

"At today's meeting of the ABFF Executive Committee, the candidacy of the new head coach of the national football team of the Republic of Belarus was approved," the federation said in a statement.

The agreement with the coach is for four years. The Federation emphasized that Goncharenko is rightfully considered the most successful coach in the country. He has won two Belarusian championships in his playing career.

As a coach, he won the national championship six times with the Belarusian BATE, in 2008 he led the club to the group stage of the Champions League for the first time. He won the Russian Super Cup with CSKA Moscow. He was also recognized 11 times as the best coach of Belarus.

Spaniard Juan Carlos Carcedo became the head coach of Spartak Moscow football club on January 5. Carcedo, 52, is scheduled to take up his duties on January 8.
