Politico published four US demands for Maduro's replacement Rodriguez
The administration of US President Donald Trump is demanding that Venezuela's interim leader Delcy Rodriguez take several "pro-American steps." The corresponding requirements were published by the Politico newspaper on January 6.
"The Trump administration is demanding that the interim leader of Venezuela take a number of pro—American measures, which her predecessor refused, if she wants to avoid a similar fate," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, at least three concrete steps are expected — strengthening the fight against drug trafficking, expelling agents of states hostile to Washington from Venezuela, as well as stopping oil sales to US opponents.
In addition, the American side expects that Rodriguez will eventually facilitate the holding of free elections and resign.
On January 5, Rodriguez took the oath of office as interim president of the country. On January 4, the Supreme Court of Venezuela recognized her as acting president.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was brought to New York Federal Court on January 5 to face charges. In court, he declared his innocence and said that he was still the president of his country. The American court agreed to schedule a visit by consular officers to Venezuela.
The judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing. Several hundred people gathered in New York outside the Federal District Court of the Southern District in support of Maduro.
On January 3, Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro.
