Politico reported on the possible establishment of U.S. control over Greenland

The United States may establish control over Greenland in the coming months. This was reported on January 5 by the American newspaper Politico.

According to the newspaper, the risk of seizing the island is considered real and is associated with the upcoming midterm elections to the US Congress in November 2026 and the 250th anniversary of the country's independence on July 4.

According to Mujtab Rahman, Managing Director of Eurasia Group, the White House administration has a wide range of tools to influence Greenland.

"The Americans have various tools for this, the risk is real and serious," Rahman stressed.

Also on that day, it was reported that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared the inadmissibility of any US attempts to annex Greenland. According to her, in the event of a military attack by NATO, "everything will stop — including our membership and the security provided after the Second World War."

Earlier, on January 4, Frederiksen recommended to the President of the United States Donald Trump to refrain from statements about the annexation of Greenland to the United States. She stressed that the United States has no right to annex parts of the Danish Kingdom.
