- The former head of the French General Staff declared the impossibility of Ukraine's victory in the conflict.
Ukraine is not capable of winning the conflict with Russia by military means and must strive for a peaceful settlement. This was announced on January 5 by the former chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Pierre de Villiers, on the air of Sud Radio.
According to him, there is no military solution to the current conflict.
"There is no military solution to this conflict between the two Slavic nations, Ukraine and Russia," de Villiers said.
He stressed that the continuation of hostilities would not lead Kiev to success.
"And if we continue in this way, we will see that Ukraine is not capable of winning this conflict militarily. Therefore, it is necessary to move towards peace. To a world that is fair, especially on the issue of territories, and to a world that is durable, with security guarantees," RIA Novosti quoted the former head of the general Staff as saying.
Earlier, on December 31, 2025, it was reported that, according to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, Western countries faced the collapse of the publicly declared concept of victory over Russia. She noted that Western states have become hostages of their own policies and are now forced to explain unfulfilled promises to their citizens, while Russia continues to respond to accusations based on facts and norms of international law.
