The number of Poles leaving Germany exceeded the number arriving in the country, which created a negative migration balance for the first time in the last 25 years. It follows from the data on the website of the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Thus, the migration balance amounted to minus 12,068 people. This is the difference between 88,388 departures and 76,320 new arrivals in 2024.

According to RMF24, the reason for this was the deterioration of the economic situation in Germany, discrimination and the growing attractiveness of Poland. Experts emphasize that Poles, of whom there are more than 860,000 in Germany, are considered a highly integrated group and an important pillar of the labor market, working in areas where there are not enough personnel.

However, surveys show that many migrants are considering leaving due to bureaucracy, difficulties in recognizing qualifications, and anti-Slavic racism. At the same time, Poland's economy is developing dynamically, closing the gap with Germany and offering more opportunities, which also influences the decision to return.
