- The German authorities commented on Medvedev's words about the possible abduction of Merz.
On January 5, the German authorities strongly condemned the words of Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, who, in an interview with TASS, spoke about the possible abduction of Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"We condemn such threats in the strongest terms," said Sebastian Hille, deputy spokesman for the German government. His words are quoted by the Tagesspiegel newspaper.
In an interview with the agency, Medvedev, talking about the fate of the chancellor after the US operation in Venezuela, admitted that "Merz's abduction could be an excellent plot twist."
The German authorities see no reason to strengthen security measures, as Chancellor Merz is "reliably protected" and his guards "are among the best in the world," Hille added.
In the same interview on January 4, Medvedev stated that the United Nations (UN) is not capable of influencing events such as the US strikes on Venezuela. According to him, the organization's resolutions have never forced the parties to lay down their arms or stop the genocide. Medvedev stated that the founding documents of the United Nations remained largely "well-intentioned." He added that the world needs effective mechanisms of international law to ensure the safety of billions of people.
