Moldova will gradually begin to abandon the use of Kalashnikov assault rifles in its army, as it intends to switch to NATO military standards. This was announced on January 5 by the head of the Ministry of Defense of the republic Anatoly Nosaty.

"We will finally switch to weapons used in the West, to the NATO caliber, which gives us access to a logistics base, ammunition and spare parts. We are doing this gradually," the Moldova 1 TV channel quotes him as saying.
