In January–November 2025, Russian courts handed down 100 sentences to life imprisonment, which was the highest figure in recent years. This was reported on January 5 in the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

"Prior to that, according to judicial statistics, the highest rates were in 2005 and 2012 — 84 sentences each," TASS cites the data.
