Protesters gathered at the venue of the Maduro trial in the United States
In front of the courthouse, where a hearing on the case of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is scheduled today, protesters gathered demanding the release of the Venezuelan leader and the cessation of Washington's military actions against Caracas. This was reported to Izvestia on January 5 by correspondent Nikolai Masters.
It is specified that Venezuelan flags were seen at the demonstration. The participants actively express their dissatisfaction by whistling and shouting loudly. The atmosphere at the detention center is extremely tense. Security forces are taking additional security measures by installing new fences.
"It was an illegal act, and we announced it to the whole world. The world should know that the US government has abducted the constitutional president, and this is a violation of international law, and we cannot allow this to happen," Lucy Pagoada, one of the participants in the rally, told Izvestia.
Another protester named Jasmine said that Maduro's abduction did not reflect the will of the American people and stressed that the people were not going to put up with such actions.
On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, which, according to The New York Times (NYT), killed 80 people. The head of the White House said that Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis stressed on January 3 that the reasons for the US military attack on Venezuela were completely fabricated.
The Washington Post (WP) reported on January 4 that the charges against the Venezuelan president will be officially announced on Monday, January 5, at 12:00 (20:00 Moscow time) in a New York court. Maduro and his wife are accused by the US Department of Justice of illicit enrichment through the alleged distribution of drugs in the United States.
