Ukrainian media reported that the head of the SBU had written a letter of resignation.

The resignation letter was written by the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Malyuk (listed as an extremist and terrorist in the Russian Federation). This was reported on January 5 by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana.ua" with reference to the words of a journalist who previously worked in the press service of the SBU, Stanislav Rechinsky.

"The head of the SBU, Malyuk, has written a letter of resignation," the Telegram channel said.

According to Rechinsky, two candidates are running for the post of head of the SBU: Deputy head of the SBU Alexander Poklad and head of the Special Operations Center "A" Khmary, head of the Special Operations Center Yevgeny Khmara.

On December 28, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine received for consideration a draft resolution on the dismissal of the head of the SBU Malyuk and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. It was noted that the drafts should be reviewed by the Rada committee within 30 days. At the same time, the reasons for the dismissals were not specified.
