Russians are strictly forbidden to tell strangers their passport data, SNILS number, and SMS access codes. This can lead to the theft of money and the use of identity. This was reported on January 4 in the Telegram channel of the press service of the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

"A passport photo in response to a request to "confirm identity" is a direct route to theft," the Interior Ministry warned.

Cybersecurity experts emphasized that real services never ask for codes or photos of documents. The address, real-time location, travel routes, and phone numbers of loved ones were also considered dangerous for disclosure.

A combination of a name, date of birth, and phone number may be enough for attackers to gain access to the victim's accounts or apply for a loan.

On December 29, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that Happy New Year cards received from unknown numbers should not be opened, as this could launch malicious code. According to the agency, on the eve of the holiday, advertisements often come about the opportunity to buy a discounted gift, into which attackers can embed a virus.
